Another Chinese vase sells for an insane price!
'A blue and white porcelain Dragon jar sold for $7,658,000 in the Fine Asian Works of Art sale on Monday December 13th at Bonhams & Butterfields in San Francisco. The 360-lot sale brought more than $19 million with the vast majority of the lots fetching multiples of their estimates.'
The appraisers at the auction house felt that it was a late Guangxu copy. But the bidders felt otherwise. The bidding ended at 7.66 million dollars.
The vase is now assumed to be an Imperial piece from the Qianlong reign and dating to around 1760. The vase is quite stunning and the dragon is perfectly executed. The vase stands 14 inches tall and is in pristine condition.
The vase was purchased, as were most of the Chinese porcelain lots on sale at an Asian sale held at Bonhams & Butterfields earlier this week, by mainland Chinese buyers. These same buyers purchased the last record breaking vase last month that went for 69 million dollars.
